Lesson 4

Negative Numbers

In this lesson your class will apply their knowledge of finding the difference between two numbers when calculating intervals across zero. Your class will be introduced to negative numbers through temperatures. For the teaching input, the slides model finding the difference using a number line to support the children as they travel across zero. During the lesson they will either find the difference between a variety of temperatures or explore the difference in height between land areas that are above and below sea level.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
  • Activity ideas
  • Differentiated worksheets
  • Above sea level cards
  • Below sea level cards

Solving Problems

The final lesson in this series gets your class to apply the skills they have used this week to solve practical problems. The children will need to work out what the question is asking them to find out and choose an appropriate method to solve it. The problems include ordering high scores, ordering javelin throws, finding the difference between temperatures and creating their own word problems.
