Special Objects

Explore with your class a range of objects that are special to different religions. Your class will find out about different faiths such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism, and explore the special objects and items used within these religions.

As well as this, the children will listen to a variety of religious stories, learn how to play new games and discuss their own special objects with their class. So many fun, engaging activities packed into six fully-prepared lessons! This scheme of work is also part of a Topic Bundle. Perfect if you are teaching 'Toys' as a cross-curricular topic.

A Knowledge Organiser is available to support the learning in this scheme. It is included in the Complete Series download or can be purchased individually.

Lesson 1

The Wooden Ark!

The first lesson in this series gets your class exploring toys that are special to them and why. They will read the Bible’s version of Noah’s Ark and learn about how children may play with a wooden ark whilst retelling the story. The children will have opportunities to retell their own versions of Noah’s Ark and can enjoy using masks and puppets to bring the story to life.

The Dreidel!

Learn about the story of Hanukkah and the oil lamps that burned for eight days. Your class will also learn about the dreidel and why it is played, as well as other special objects used at this time. They will have the opportunity to make their own dreidels and play the game in teams.

In this lesson your class with learn about three holy books: the Bible, Torah and Qur’an and the objects used with them: a lectern, yad, and Qur’an stand. The children will also learn about where you would find these religious books in a church, synagogue or mosque and the faiths Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

During this fun lesson the children will learn about different religious figures and the special items of clothes they wear.
