This Year 2 working scientifically scheme of work is all about 'Super Scientists'. Your class will have the opportunity to learn about scientists and their discoveries while developing their own 'working scientifically' skills. This scheme will extend their knowledge through a variety of fun, practical and informative activities, including investigating gravity, light, sound, medical science including reflexes and germs, as well as how to make a simple circuit.

Isaac Newton - Gravity

This first lesson in this Super Scientists scheme of work gives your class the chance to find out about Isaac Newton. They will conduct simple investigations involving observing falling objects, to develop their understanding of what gravity is.

Isaac Newton - Light

In this lesson, your class will learn more about Newton and discover that he continued looking at the world scientifically after developing his theory of gravity. Your class will investigate Newton's light discoveries, either investigating what happens when light passes through a prism or by making their own focusing telescope.

Maggie Aderin Pocock - Wind

In the third lesson of this series, your class will learn about Maggie Aderin-Pocock and her amazing work. Your class will find out how her work has helped us to better understand space and how it is impacting our understanding of climate change. Your children will make a wind vane and investigate the direction wind travels. Alternatively they can make an anemometer and investigate wind speed.

They will then be challenged to put their reflexes or their senses to the test, seeing if they can record their information and think like scientists.
